# EU rules, standards and protocols

Every European law, standard and protocol that matters for AC EV charging, what it covers, and where EdgeTech stands: Yes, Soon, On order, Planned, No, or Not applicable. Includes the AFIR requirement for ISO 15118-20 in all new Mode 3 charge points from 1 January 2027, the RED cybersecurity rules, the Cyber Resilience Act and the Dutch NTA 8043 register.

This page lists what applies to AC charging in Europe: laws first, then product standards, radio and security, installation, vehicle communication, energy management and metering, and national rules. The [status table](/standards) has the detail of what our products implement.

Status words on this page:
- **Yes**: our products comply with it or implement it today.
- **Soon**: required for what we sell, and being prepared; not yet in the product or in its declaration.
- **On order**: a working implementation, finished into a product when a customer orders it.
- **Planned**: on the roadmap.
- **No**: not supported.
- **Not applicable**: does not apply to AC chargers, or to the part of the chain we make.

## Coming up

- **ISO 15118-20 in every new charger from 1 January 2027.** The EU charging-infrastructure regulation (AFIR, as amended by Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/656) requires EN ISO 15118-20 for every Mode 3 charge point installed or renovated from that date, private as well as public. Existing charge points are exempt until they are renovated. Our [ISO 15118 module](/electronics/iso15118-module) adds it to the charge controller.
- **Cybersecurity of connected devices.** Internet-connected radio equipment must meet the RED cybersecurity rules (EN 18031) since 1 August 2025. The Cyber Resilience Act applies in full from 11 December 2027; its duty to report actively exploited vulnerabilities applies since 11 September 2026. Found a weakness in one of our products? [Report it here](/support/security).
- **Smart charging in buildings.** The recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is in Dutch law since 29 May 2026: pre-cabling and smart-charging-ready charge points in new and renovated buildings.
