Matter over Thread set
The wireless smart set: our charge controller with a Thread module, a P1 meter reader on the smart meter, a Matter controller that runs the load balancing, and an optional SG-Ready module for a heat pump. All Matter 1.4 over Thread. Not CSA-certified; certification on the customer's request.

Specifications
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Charger Thread module | Attaches to the EVSE-C-3x32A over RS485; Matter Energy EVSE device type (0x050C) with Energy EVSE (0x0099), Energy EVSE Mode (0x009D) and Electrical Power Measurement (0x0090) per phase; Device Energy Management (0x0098) present as a stub |
| P1 Thread meter reader | On the P1 port of a DSMR 5 meter; Electrical Power Measurement per phase, export negative, 1 s |
| Matter controller (hub) | Thread border router and Matter controller; runs the per-second load balancing; three hardware sizes depending on the site |
| SG-Ready module (optional) | Two relays on a heat pump's SG-Ready contacts as two Matter On/Off Plug-in Units (0x010A) |
| Certification | Not CSA-certified. Certification is expensive and is done on the customer's request and cost. |
| Load balancing | On the hub, through UserMaximumChargeCurrent; the same rules as the wired variant (6 A minimum, fail-safe fallback) |
| Third-party controllers | To be confirmed: Home Assistant Matter server works in our lab; consumer ecosystems do not commission the Energy EVSE device type yet |
Interfaces: Thread, Matter 1.4, RS485 to the charge controller, P1
Standards: Matter 1.4 Energy EVSE, Matter Electrical Power Measurement, Thread 1.3/1.4, IEEE 802.15.4. Status of each on the standards page.
What it is
The smart set without the RS485 bus to the meter cupboard. The charge controller gets a Thread module and becomes a Matter Energy EVSE device; a small reader on the smart meter’s P1 port becomes a Matter power meter; a controller box runs the load balancing and talks to both. A heat pump joins with the SG-Ready module.
Everything is standard Matter 1.4 over Thread, so the devices show up in a Matter controller like any other device, with real device types and clusters, not a vendor bridge.
What we say and do not say
We say “Matter over Thread”. We do not name the radio modules or the controller hardware inside; they are components, and they change. We say “not certified”, and we offer certification on request.
Questions
Why not certified?
CSA certification costs more than most projects justify. The set works with our own controller out of the box. When a customer needs the Matter logo, we run the certification for that product on request.
Does it still connect to the platform and the app?
To be confirmed. The hub has an MQTT bridge, so the same platform, app and chat can be offered; whether the wireless set ships cloud-connected or local-only is a decision still open.
